Harris
KHALIQ

Independent Candidate for Ward End
For the Many, Not the Few.

I will stand up for the people of Ward End and represent with integrity – to be your voice in the council chamber

I’m Doing Things Differently.

That’s why I’m asking my Ward End Residents to give me your feedback for the priorities for our area.

Open Until 30th November 2025

Integrity, Honesty and Empathy

My Story

My name is Harris Khaliq, and I’ve lived in Ward End for over 30 years. I’m 34 years old, a father of three, and I’m standing as your Independent Candidate because our community deserves better. I’m stepping up to make real change happen.

Education

I studied at Sladefield Infant, Thornton Primary, and Washwood Heath Secondary School, before graduating from Aston University with First Class Honours in Computing and Business.

I’ve worked at Birmingham City Council, KPMG, Experian, and Jaguar Land Rover. I’ve also helped many local businesses build their digital presence and modernise their services.

At 19, I joined the Labour Party, inspired by Jeremy Corbyn’s values. But when those values were sidelined — and local councillors failed us — I left. I’ve watched Ward End decline, and I can no longer stand by while nothing changes.

I’m not a career politician — just a local resident who genuinely cares and wants to make a difference.

My Motivation

Political parties have taken the public for granted. They’ve ignored working-class people and treated local communities like ours with contempt.

People are fed up with councillors who turn up once every few years asking for votes but do nothing between elections.

That’s why I’m running as an Independent Candidate — to fight for Ward End, not for any party. I will be accountable only to YOU — not party donors or Westminster.

Ward End Issues – Six to Fix

These are specific problems we face right here in our neighbourhood.

Tough on crime and anti-social behaviour

Work closely with police and community leaders to reduce crime, tackle anti-social behaviour, and make Ward End safer for everyone.

Crack down on fly-tipping, restore reliable bin services, and organise community clean-up campaigns to bring pride back to our neighbourhoods.

Safeguard the future of Ward End Library as a vital space for education, culture, and community life.

Invest in youth centres, sports, and training programmes to give young people positive opportunities and keep them away from crime.

Support local shops and businesses with a dedicated BID to improve safety, footfall, and the look and feel of our high street.

Push for tighter regulation on HMOs to prevent overcrowding, improve housing standards, and protect local residents.

Birmingham-Wide Issues

These are city-wide problems caused by poor leadership at Birmingham City Council.

Restore Financial Stability

Bring the council back to financial stability after Labour’s reckless spending, and rebuild trust in local government.

Recover the £500 million wrongly paid to the West Midlands Pension Fund, and return it to the city where it belongs.

Deliver improved waste collections, fair pay for bin workers, and the reliable, high-quality service residents deserve.

End all pest control charges so every resident can access vital services without cost being a barrier to public health.

Introduce Digital Autopsy technology and a full-time pathologist to significantly reduce burial delays and provide grieving families with dignity and timely closure.

National Issues

These are issues affecting the entire country — and our area feels the impact daily.

Justice for Palestine and Jammu & Kashmir

Both Palestine and Jammu & Kashmir represent grave violations of international law, displacing and oppressing thousands. I will stand with all people fighting for justice, peace, and freedom.

Fight privatisation, end underfunding, and protect the NHS as a free, world-class health service for all.

Reverse damaging cuts, protect frontline services, and invest in communities that have suffered under austerity.

Abolish this cruel policy that pushes families into poverty and punishes children simply for being born.

Secure a fairer funding deal for Birmingham and other councils, so resources are shared based on need, not politics.

Bring energy, water, and transport back under public ownership so they are run for people, not profit.
