Ward End Library – almost 100 years of serving our community – not included for upcoming investment.
For residents of Ward End, Bromford, and Alum Rock – some of the most deprived areas in Birmingham – this library is more than books on shelves. It’s a lifeline, offering access to computers, workshops, and vital skills for those who need it most.
I remember the early 2000s when my parents couldn’t afford a computer for me. I’d spend weekends at Ward End Library just to use one, and even when we did have a computer, we couldn’t afford the monthly internet. Those visits weren’t just about access – they were warm, formative memories, shared by countless others who grew up in Ward End.
Yet the cuts and neglect continue. Last month, we learned Ward End Library won’t benefit from the new investment other libraries across Birmingham are receiving. Our elected councillor has failed to fight for us, and in recent years library hours have been cut, limiting access even further.
As part of my campaign, I’m promising to protect and fight for investment in Ward End Library – because our community deserves fairness, opportunity, and a future we can all access.
